As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him; for he knows how we are formed… This from Psalm 103:13, and it is by way of background on how the sanctity of human life is ignored for political expediency. I caught a snippet of former president Bill Clinton’s campaigning on behalf of his wife, the ever-dutiful Hillary.
The subject was, ostensibly, technology and the economy, and Bubba was waxing eloquent as to how we had fallen behind, due to, among other things, the “ideology” and “politics” of things such as stem-cell research. This is not-well disguised code for those horrible, knuckle-dragging Neanderthals who actually think that human life begins at conception, and that that life is therefore made imagio Deo and is to be protected at all costs.
The Clintons are not, and should not be, considered any kind of moral barometer. They will do whatever it takes to gain and hold secular power. But what is troubling is that there is nary a soul in the Democratic Party, and far too few in the Republican Party, who will take such moral vacuity as demonstrated by Bill Clinton to task.
Although, we are speaking of human lives here, it is not that one may not hold an opinion contrary to mine or of other Christians as to when human life begins. Although one must be in a state of scientific denial to think that once the full genome is set at fertilization, the embryo is not fully human. People are entitled to be wrong, even about weighty moral issues.
What people should never do, but which politicians such as the Clintons do invariably, is paint those who disagree with you as being the ones who are “ideological.” Barack Hussein Obama is a fresh face, and his soothing rhetoric seemingly puts him above this kind of pettiness. Yet, when one digs just below the surface, his talk of “bipartisanship” and “unity” simply means that us pro-lifers had best just join the death parade.
As for being the party of death, the Democrats have achieved their goal. And they are trying to convince the rest of us that it is we who are divisive and ideological.
Vote for life, my friends. And that means John McCain or Mike Huckabee.
