The current nasties in charge in Iran have threatened to wipe Israel off the map, using nuclear fire. Words are cheap, they say, but sometimes the saner course is to take apparent madmen at their word.

I was reminded of this warning that God will protect his people Israel. Ezekiel 28:

25 Thus saith the Lord GOD: When I shall have gathered the house of Israel from the peoples among whom they are scattered, and shall be sanctified in them in the sight of the nations, then shall they dwell in their own land which I gave to My servant Jacob. 26 And they shall dwell safely therein, and shall build houses, and plant vineyards; yea, they shall dwell safely; when I have executed judgments upon all those that have them in disdain round about them; and they shall know that I am the LORD their God.’

How will God achieve this? I don’t know, but it would seem that God might simply inspire Israel, and, it is hoped, those of us who profess to love Israel as Christians, to do the right thing and prevent a second Holocaust.

Israel will do what it needs to do to survive. The Jews have survived Pharaohs, Haman, the Romans, the Crusades, the Inquisition, Nazi Germany, Soviet Russia. For well over three millenia. The survival, and, more, the thriving of Jews and Israel would have to be wildly improbable, absent a Friend in a really high place.

Throughout their history, groups that have attempted to subjugate or destroy the Jews have themselves been destroyed, or subjugated. Only the Jews have survived, guided by the same book as was given to Moses at Mt. Sinai.

God does keep his promises. I wouldn’t bet against that proposition.
