Every human being is a gift from God. Yes, I know: on so many of those gifts, we need to mark them “return to sender.” And promptly get them out of our lives. But those are human beings who have chosen evil. Not the innocent.
Among the most innocent are those born with less: less intelligence; less physical ability; less money. These are the ones who need our protection and our love most of all. Why does God allow a child to be born with what some call a defect such as Down Syndrome?
Call it tough love. God may be testing our ability to imitate Him in demonstrating our love for the least of our brothers. There’s no doubt that God loves all of us. There should also be no doubt that God’s standards for what makes a successful human being are quite different from society’s.
Gov. Sarah Palin who has a Down Syndrome little boy, had this to say about that (via NRO):
What’s been confirmed in me is every child has something to contribute to the world, if we give them that chance. You know that there are the world’s standards of perfection, and then there are God’s, and these are the final measure. Every child is beautiful before God, and dear to Him for their own sake.
This is a key difference between Christians such as Gov. Palin and the harpies on the Left who bray about feminism. Gov. Palin is, unequivocally, pro-life. She does not just say she is. She lives her life that way.
